October News: Fall has officially arrived! Temperatures are cooling and the holidays are just around the corner. Around here, October is festival time. Most are centered around farms - growing foodstuffs and animals. There are always vendors with arts and crafts for sale, quilt shows, and of course, lots of yummy food! October also means that the State Fair of Texas is underway. I am hoping we are able to visit this year - I would like to check out the cross stitch category as I am planning to stitch something to enter next year.
The Online Needlework Show was at the end of September and it appears to have been a great success. I have purchased some new inventory that should begin arriving shortly. I have ordered a couple of new designs from My Big Toe - a humorous chart and an inspirational chart. I have ordered a cute Christmas/Seasonal chart and a Halloween chart from Lavender Wings. I have ordered two charts from Scarlet Quince - they are both pretty awesome looking. And last, but not least, I have ordered three charts from White Dance Designs. I have not carried anything from White Dance Designs or Scarlet Quince before, so I am curious to see how well they do.
Hurricane Ike hit Texas last month and has devastated Galveston Island and surrounding areas. I grew up in and around Houston and visited Galveston many times - the last time just a couple of years ago. Seeing pictures of the devastation has just been heartbreaking. I have family in Pearland and Humble, as well as friends in Houston. They have all been affected, but everyone came through just fine, with minimal damage for the most part. Our prayers and thoughts continue to go out to those in the area who are doing everything they can to rebuild their lives.
I know that the economy is seemingly going downhill and we are all affected in some way by what is happening on Wall Street. Prices are up on just about everything. It is at times like these that we tend to cut back on the extras, and cross stitch can certainly be considered an extra. Please know that I am very appreciative of every order that I receive and I know that I am blessed to have such wonderful customers.
While Christmas is just a couple of months away, we have already planned to cut back quite a bit. We love to give to our family and friends, so it is not easy to not be as generous as in years past. Framed family photos, a calendar featuring my husband's photography, and stitched pieces will be given as gifts this year. We are very lucky that our family and friends enjoy and appreciate our gifts from the heart -- I know that many people are not so lucky.
I consider my stitched pieces as art -- they are created using fabric and threads, rather than canvas and paint. When I stitch something, it tends to be for someone specific and I think of them while I am stitching the piece. I put a piece of myself in each piece. No matter how frustrating I may find a project (and I have had a few!), no matter how large or small, complicated or easy - it is always a great feeling when the project is complete.
If you are considering stitching some pieces to give as Christmas gifts, remember that you are giving a piece of yourself, too.
I am still working on the large Nativity I began around the end of September last year. I keep putting it aside to work on other, smaller projects, but I will get it finished next year (I hope!).
I am very happy to announce that International orders can now be filled via the Shopping Cart!!!! That means that if you live outside the United States, you do not have to contact me via email in order to place an order! I am hoping that this new flexibility will help our overseas friends have some great S.E.X. (Stash Enhancement eXperience)!

Why should you choose East Texas Treasures for your cross stitch needs?
As gas prices continue to skyrocket, shopping online means that you save on fuel costs, as well as time traveling to and from a craft store and dealing with crowds. You can shop any time of the day or night, while you’re eating or watching TV, dressed in your pjs, or when you have just a couple of minutes to spare.
