Howdy, y’all! My name is Becky and I am the owner of East Texas Treasures. I hope your visit here is a pleasant one.
I started this business in May 2005 after selling on eBay for awhile. Someone somewhere once said, "To be happy, do what you love". After working as a secretary and administrative assistant for over 20 years, I decided that I wanted to be my own boss. I love doing counted cross stitch and making things for friends and family, some of which I hope will become family heirlooms to be passed down for generations. I decided to combine my dream of being my own boss with sharing the art of counted cross stitch with others. I took the plunge and quit my "day" job at the end of June, 2005 and started selling full-time online. I haven’t looked back!
I began doing counted cross stitch over 20 years ago as a hobby. During that time, I accumulated a LOT of pattern booklets and leaflets. A few years ago, I discovered eBay and my collection grew! I began selling some of my stash on eBay just over a year ago and opened a store there in July, 2004. While I enjoyed selling on that venue, I decided to begin my own website. I occasionally find cross stitch patterns at yard and garage sales; more often, I have other sources from which I purchase new patterns and kits. At least once a year I go through my personal stash -- I swear I have more now than I did a few months ago!
I really do enjoy being my own boss, setting my own hours, being able to go on vacation or take a sick day without feeling too guilty, and spending more time with my husband, our gardens, and our family. I especially enjoy meeting new people online through this venture of mine.
If you are looking for something in particular and can’t find it, please contact us. I may have it in stock, but not yet listed, or I may be able to obtain it for you.
ABOUT US
I grew up in and around the Houston area. In 1991, I moved to Denton (north of Dallas and Fort Worth) to be near family. I met my husband in 1999 and we married on September 1, 2002. In 2002, I moved from Denton to Grand Saline, my husband’s hometown.
Grand Saline is a small town in East Texas, about 70 miles east of Dallas. There’s not much here other than the Morton salt mine, but the town is currently undergoing some positive improvements with the Main Street Project. We actually live about 3 miles outside of town on 1.5 acres. We have vegetable and flower gardens, with plans for more eventually. We have two sons, a daughter-in-law, a cat, and a dog. We both love living out in the country where you can see the the wonderful constellations at night and when the moon is full, it’s extremely bright; I don’t think either of us could live in the big city again.
Our oldest son recently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Dallas with his Masters degree. He currently works for a great company in Dallas. He continues to play sports and work hard, as well as settling into married life. In August, 2009, he and his wife welcomed their firstborn child, a son named Hayden. He is, of course, the most beautiful baby ever!
Our youngest son graduated from high school as Salutatorian. He going to college full time this fall. He works part-time, and enjoys hunting and fishing as well.
On August 27, we became first-time grandparents to a beautiful baby boy - Hayden Nikolas. He is the most precious baby. I do not get to see him very much, but his mommy sends me pictures almost every day -- he is growing too fast!
In our spare time, we like to go camping as often as possible. Unfortunately, we haven’t had a chance to go the last couple of years, as we’ve had many other events that have required our attention. My husband enjoys fishing and you can find him out on Lake Tawakoni or Lake Fork when the weather is nice (not too hot, cold, or windy). We both enjoy watching a good movie and try to catch one at the theater a few times a year; in the meantime, we are building our DVD collection and add to it often. In addition to working on my cross stitch projects, I’m an avid reader and enjoy romances, thrillers, and mysteries. My husband listens to a variety of audio books on his way to and from work.
As an amateur photographer, my husband has taken some pretty amazing pictures. One of my dreams is to convert a number of his pictures into counted cross stitch patterns -- they would make amazing pieces. I just need to find the time!
Well, that’s a little about us....I hope I haven’t bored you to tears! Please take some time to browse and window shop and feel free to purchase as much as you want. I hope that we can establish a long-lasting relationship.
